Summary of Position:
The Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission (APBPC) is a public-private partnership that protects and manages the Albany Pine Bush Preserve (APBP) and provides the public with educational and recreational opportunities.
The 3,400+ acre APBP, located in New York’s Capital District, protects a northeastern interior pine barrens including one of the best remaining inland pitch-pine scrub oak barrens in the world. The APBP is a National Natural Landmark and is home to more than 20 percent of the species designated as New York State wildlife Species of Greatest Conservation Need, such as the endangered Karner blue butterfly. Characterized by rolling sand dunes and over 20 miles of trails, the APBP provides visitors with unique opportunities for hiking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, and canoeing.
The APBP Discovery Center at 195 New Karner Road, Albany, is seeking a dynamic person to serve as a Seasonal Interpretive Naturalist. This role is a member of the APBPC Education Department and works to implement comprehensive education programs for the APBP in alignment with the APBPC Management Plan and Community Connection Initiative. As part of the education team, the Seasonal Interpretive Naturalist also provides coverage of operating the Discovery Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead Pine Bush-centered, interactive, and hands-on education programs for a diversity of school (and home school) groups and the public.
Share responsibility for program set-up and clean-up including Discovery Center classrooms.
Assist with interpretive writing including creation of brochures and other publications.
Use on-line applications for virtual programs and webinars including Zoom and Google Classroom.
Provide interpretive (educational) services for Discovery Center visitors both in person and remotely that help connect them to, and spark their interest in, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve.
Operate the gift shop including opening and closing the register, filling out daily revenue report forms, following and adhering to established cash and merchandise handling procedures, receiving deliveries, pricing, and labeling merchandise and organizing shop inventory for display.
Monitor, clean, open, and close the Discovery Center and exhibits.
Provide animal care for the Discovery Center’s captive turtle collection.
Work alongside and lead volunteers.
Share coverage of weekend and evening interpretive programs and weekend front desk.
Communicate with supervisor to resolve any unforeseen problems or questions.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred with a major in environmental education, environmental science, cultural or natural history interpretation, biology, elementary/secondary education OR Associate’s degree in related field and min of 1 year work experience work experience in a nature center, teaching, museum, or other work experience related to education.
Experience leading programs for a diversity of audiences or public speaking experience.
Knowledge of natural sciences or interest in learning.
Experience working with Microsoft Office’s suite of software applications.
Ability to prioritize and complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
Attention to detail and ability to self-start.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for work purposes (personal vehicle not required).
Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and some evenings.
Current certification in basic first aid and CPR preferred. Training will be provided if needed

teacher takes on 4-6 students to independently mentor and assists teaching the full group on

Teatown Lake Reservation, the largest community supported, non-profit environmental education
center in Westchester County, New York is seeking a Bilingual Outreach Instructor to be a part of the
education team that provides environmental education programs for pre-school students offsite
through our community partnership programs. This position requires an enthusiastic, outgoing, and
energetic person who will further Teatown’s mission to inspire our community to lifelong environmental
stewardship. Ideal candidates must have a background in early childhood or environmental education, a
foundation in natural science, and Spanish-language proficiency.
Position Summary: The Bilingual Outreach Instructor is responsible for developing and teaching early
childhood programs and for developing, coordinating, and implementing programming in conjunction
with the rest of the Education Department team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop, coordinate, implement, and deliver bilingual curriculum for Little School, Ossining
Children’s Center, and other early childhood programs as warranted. Coordinate program
deliverables with education staff.
2. Build relationships and maintain communication with early childhood centers, school
administrators and other relevant community organizations.
3. Facilitate hands-on engaging, culturally relevant natural science and environmental education
programs, classes, and activities for diverse populations.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:
1. BA or BS in early childhood education, environmental education, or related degree. One year of

2. Working knowledge of the natural sciences and willingness to work on expanding this knowledge.
3. Spanish language skills required.
4. Ability to work with people of all backgrounds.
5. Strong communication skills.

This is a part-time position of approximately 12 hours of work per week. This position will be performed
primarily in person, with occasional remote work if conditions warrant. Much of the work will take place
off-site at the facilities of partner organizations.

certified interpretive center where visitors come to understand why the Pine Bush is rare and special. This

The Seasonal Interpretive Naturalist assists the Lead Educator (LE) and the Education Department with
implementing interpretive experiences and educational programs for the APBP compatible with the
ecological resources, research, and management goals of the preserve and in alignment with APBPC
Management Plan and Community Connection Initiative. The primary responsibility of the seasonal
interpretive naturalist is to promote a greater public awareness and understanding of the Albany Pine
Bush and the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. The Seasonal Interpretive Naturalist leads Pine Bush-centered
interactive, hands-on interpretive and educational programs for a diversity of audiences including school
groups from grades pre-K – university, special interest groups, and the public and participates in the
creation and planning of education programs. The seasonal interpretive naturalist also has regular shifts
operating the Discovery Center which will include directing visitors to services and facilities; providing
information about the preserve including recreational opportunities and educational events; answering
visitor questions and resolving complaints; operating the gift shop, making sales and following cash

Summary of Position:
The Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission (APBPC) is a public-private partnership created by the NYS
Legislature in 1988 to protect and manage the Albany Pine Bush Preserve (APBP) and provide the public
with educational and recreational opportunities. The Management Plan for the Albany Pine Bush Preserve
guides all aspects of creating and managing the preserve.
The 3,400+ - acre APBP, located in New York’s Capital District, protects one of the best remaining
inland pitch-pine scrub oak barrens in the world. This extraordinary fire-dependent ecosystem provides
habitat for many plants and animals, including more than 20 percent of New York State’s wildlife Species
of Greatest Conservation Need, such as the endangered Karner blue butterfly. The APBP is a National
Natural Landmark, Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area Site, National
Recreation Trail Site, a New York State Unique Area, Birding Trail Site and Bird Conservation Area, and
a National Audubon Society Important Bird Area. Characterized by rolling sand dunes and over 20
miles of trails, the APBP offers visitors with a variety of interests many recreational opportunities
including hiking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting, fishing
and canoeing.
As the gateway to the Pine Bush, the Discovery Center at 195 New Karner Road, Albany, is a “green”
certified interpretive center where visitors come to understand why the Pine Bush is rare and special. This
unique destination provides for exciting exploration where learning comes naturally through interactive
exhibits, an outdoor Discovery Trail, and numerous programs on ecology, natural history, cultural history,
and management of the Pine Bush.
The Seasonal Interpretive Naturalist assists the Lead Educator (LE) and the Education Department with
implementing interpretive experiences and educational programs for the APBP compatible with the
ecological resources, research, and management goals of the preserve and in alignment with APBPC
Management Plan and Community Connection Initiative. The primary responsibility of the seasonal
interpretive naturalist is to promote a greater public awareness and understanding of the Albany Pine
Bush and the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. The Seasonal Interpretive Naturalist leads Pine Bush-centered
interactive, hands-on interpretive and educational programs for a diversity of audiences including school
groups from grades pre-K – university, special interest groups, and the public and participates in the
creation and planning of education programs. The seasonal interpretive naturalist also has regular shifts
operating the Discovery Center which will include directing visitors to services and facilities; providing
information about the preserve including recreational opportunities and educational events; answering
visitor questions and resolving complaints; operating the gift shop, making sales and following cash
handling procedures; and caring for our live animal collection.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead Pine Bush-centered, standards-based, interactive and hands-on education programs for a
diversity of school (and home school) groups from grades pre-K – university level.
2. Create and assemble materials to accompany education and interpretive programs.
3. Participate in creating and leading Pine Bush–centered interpretive programs for the public,
including programs geared towards families and special interest groups.
4. Support guest public education program leaders by attending programs and provide assistance
with needs that arise.
5. Share responsibility for program set-up and clean-up including Discovery Center classrooms.
6. Assist with interpretive writing including creation of brochures and other publications.
7. Provide technical support for virtual programs and webinars on Zoom and Google Classroom.
8. Provide interpretive (educational) services for Discovery Center visitors connecting them to and
sparking their interest in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve.
9. Track visitor attendance throughout the day.
10. Monitor and respond to general information email account.
11. Operate the gift shop including opening and closing the register, filling out daily revenue report
forms, following and adhering to established cash and merchandise handling procedures,
receiving deliveries, pricing, and labeling merchandise and organizing shop inventory for display.
12. Monitor, clean, open, and close the Discovery Center and exhibits.
13. Receive and route all main line phone calls.
14. Provide animal care for the Discovery Center’s captive turtle collection.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred with a major in environmental education, environmental science, cultural
or natural history interpretation, biology, elementary/secondary education or other related field
preferred and a minimum of one-year work experience in a nature center, teaching or other work
experience related to education.
• Experience delivering education programs to a diversity of audiences.
• Knowledge of natural sciences and/or ecology.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public-speaking skills.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office’s suite of software applications.

Title - Program Manager
Position Summary
The Student Conservation Association provides an array of internship and corps programming across the country. The Program Manager (PM) SCA New York position is responsible for ensuring the safe, complete, and accurate execution of SCAs New York program portfolio in accordance with the uniform practices and procedures established by the Senior Vice President of Program, AmeriCorps Director, and National Program Manager State-Funded AmeriCorps. SCA members in this program will serve across the state to address critical conservation projects that benefit the lands and people of the region. This is a remote-based position but will require frequent travel to program sites and events in the Hudson Valley, Adirondacks, Catskills, and parts of eastern, western and upstate NY.
The PM is responsible for delivering a strong experience for participants through direct support of local SCA program staff. The PM also works closely with the Training, Education, and Evaluation teams to assure that all materials developed for the member experience support the mission and goals of SCA and our partnering organizations. Roles and Responsibilities
- Program Planning & Delivery:
- Support programs primary member recruitment activities including developing position postings and program marketing.
- Responsible for assisting HR as requested with the SCA onboarding requirements of project leaders, staff, and members. Review all onboarding documents for staff and members start date to assure accuracy and compliance.
